- January 27, 2003 - Monk's Cafe To Create Its Own Beer
- Owner Tom Peters said today that Brewery Van Steenberge, a small independent Belgian brewery, will produce a Flemish Sour Ale to be sold under a recently created Monk's brand and label.
"Fergie [partner Fergus Carey] and I will fly over there next month to work out the final character of the beer with the brewers," Peters said, "and we hope to see it available at Monk's and elsewhere by late spring."
Van Steenberge will be free to market the beer throughout the United States, Peters said. He added that he fully expects additional Monk's beers to be created in the future.
Owner Matt Guyer promised that The Beer Yard will be one of the first places to have both bottles and kegs of the new beer available for retail sales. "It's what we do," he said.
