July 03, 2003 - Victory, Sly Fox Score High in BeerAdvocate Ratings
Victory Brewing Company of Downingtown has the first, fourth, 21st  and 36th ranked beers in just released top 50 lists at BeerAdvocate.com and was also selected the fifth best brewery in the nation.

Sly Fox Brewhouse & Eatery of Phoenixville was named the third best brewpub in the United States.

The popular internet site announced its first annual Best of BeerAdvocate.com lists in conjunction with American Beer 2003, which begins today.

Victory Storm King Stout ranked number one in the Best 50 Beers lists, Victory HopDevil Ale was ranked fourth, Old Horiztonal Barleywine finished 21st and Prima Pils came in at 36. The only other local beers on the list were Heavyweight Perkuno's Hammer at 26 and Dogfish Head 90-Minute IPA at 35. In an impressive showing, Stone Brewery of California had five of the top 15 beers.

In the top brewery listings, Victory was fifth behind Stone, Ommegang, Great Lakes and Ale Smith. Other local and regional breweries on the list were Heavyweight (14), Troegs (16), Dogfish Head (24), Stoudt (25), Penn (26), Yards (33), Weyerbacher (42) and Flying Fish (47).

Sly Fox finished third on the brewpub list, behind Southhampton Publick House in Southampton, NY and  J.J. Bitting Brewing Company of Woodbridge, NJ. Other local and regional pubs on the list were Red Star of Greensburg, PA (18), General Lafayette (19),  Church Brew Works (21), Triumph Brewing (22), Bethlehem Brew Works (25), Lancaster Brewing (31), Tun Tavern (35), Valley Forge Brewing (46) and Nodding Head (49).

Mahar's Public Bar in Albany, NY was voted best place to have a pint, followed by Redbones Barbeque in Massachussetts and D's Sixpacks & Dogz in Pittsburgh. Top listed local spot was Eulogy in Philadelphia (9). Other local and regional places in the list: Stoudt's(12), Sharp Edge of Pittsburgh (13), Monk's Cafe (16), Elmer Sudds of Wilkes Barre (19), Bethlehem Brew Works (20), Victory (24), Ludwig's Garten (26), City Tavern (34), Otto's Pub in State College (37) and Dogfish Head (49).
