July 11, 2010 - Prism Brewing Will Open in North Wales
Prism Brewing Company hopes to open its new brewery at 810 Dickerson Rd. in North Wales in August, owner and founder Rob Demaria told The Beer Yard late yesterday afternoon. The usual caveat--"depending on how the licensing paperwork work goes"--accompanied the announcement.

A 20bbl DME brewhouse is already in place, Demaria said, along with three 20bbl fermenters. He purchased the brewhouse from the defunct--never opened, actually--Virginia Brewing Company in Winchester. "I'm in the process of looking for a couple more fermenters and two brite tanks as well," he said, adding that a bottling line would be added in the near future and "we will be bottling this fall."

Prism's space in an old industrial building is 5,500 square feet spread over two floors. A tap room in the front of the building is planned at some point in the future and the space has already been set aside for that addition.

Prism introduced its first beer, Bitto Honey IPA, into the local market last fall, contract brewing at the General Lafayette Brewery and Inn with brewmaster Chris Leonard. A second contract brew, Tea Party Pale Ale, has recently been released. Both are draught only, available at the General Lafayette and select accounts.

Those two beers and Death March Porter (a "hopless" porter brewed with star anise) will be the year-round beers brewed, along with a rotating seasonal. "Depending on when we get open, that will be either the summer beer, our Belgian White, or the fall one, Red October Ale," said Demaria. "The winter seasonal will be our Bacon Chocolate Stout."--JACK CURTIN
