January 27, 2012 - RateBeer.com Just-Released "Best" Lists Include Several Local Names
There are several local aspects the 2012 RateBeer 2012 "Best" awards which were announced today.

The website takes the 3.5 million-plus reviews posted by its members and and tallies them for the results of what it calls "the largest beer competition in the world. [M]ore than 140,000 beers from over 12,000 brewers worldwide were tallied. A particular emphasis was placed on tastings made in the last twelve months. Additionally, brewpubs, bottle shops, restaurants and bars from around the world were awarded prizes."

Three Delaware Valley breweries were listed among the 100 Best Brewers: Weyerbacher Brewing Co. #47, Victory Brewing Co. #49 and Tröegs Brewing Co, #50. Weyerbacher was also #9 among the best breweries to visit in America.

Dogfish Head 90-Minute IPA was the only beer from the region among the top 100 in the U.S., coming in at #46. Among specific styles of beer it was #8 in the Double IPA category. Sly Fox Standard Pils (#5) and Victory Prima Pils (#7) were among the top selections in the Pale Lager category, while Troegs Nugget Nectar was #8 in Double IPAs.

Selin's Grove Brewing Co. (#12) And Victory Brewing Co. (#24) were among the top brewpubs. Capone's (#5) and Teresa's Next Door (#19) were on the Best Beer Bars list and the Best Beer Restaurant list included #18 Hawthorne's Cafe, #21 Isaac Newton's, #28 TJ's Restaurant and Drinkery, #29 Iron Abbey and #34 Union Jack's Inn on the Manatawny.

Industry professionals generally advise that results garnered from beer rating websites should be evaluated by the proverbial "grain of salt" standard.--JACK CURTIN
