August 18, 2004 - Dogfish 60 Minute, Victory HopDevil Get WSJ Imprimatur
Wall Street Journal staff writer Ken Wells, author of the forthcoming Travels with Barley: a Journey Through Beer Culture in America, named Dogfish Head 60 Minute IPA and Victory HopDevil Ale as the top-ranked India Pale Ales ("For Committed Hopheads") in an August 13 article entitled "The Power of Hoppiness."

Wells and a small group of (admittedly amateur) tasters sampled 11 IPAs to reach their conclusions. The beers were chosen based upon their availability at a New Jersey liquor store.

Following Dogfish Head and Victory in the top rank as "Starter and Crossover IPAs" were Cricket Hill (Fairfield, NJ) Hopnotic IPA, Brooklyn East India Pale Ale and Saranac India Pale Ale.

Listed as "Some of the Admirable Rest" were North Coast Acme IPA and Mendicino White Hawk IPA.

The article also took note of the IPA Project at Sly Fox Brewhouse and Eatery in Phoenixville in which eight varietal IPAs and a culminating Imperial IPA are being brewed to celebrate the pub's ninth anniversary.
