February 18, 2005 - Phoenixville Has Date With Destiny In June
Phoenixville will soon be home to three brewpubs, as many as the entire city of Philadelphia, thanks to a ruling by the borough council on February 15 to allow the creation of Destiny Brewing Company in the former Moose Lodge at 119 South Main Street despite insufficient parking spaces available to meet existing borough ordinances.

The council decision was based on a belief that the new business would be a good addition to Phoenixville's redevelopment efforts and appealing to the local citizenry.

In addition to the 58-seat brewpub on the basement level of the site, there will be an 84-seat restaurant-- which will also serve select Destiny beers--on the first floor and office space above that. A third floor, for now, will not be developed.

The new brewpub will be located roughly two blocks from the recently announced Iron Hill Brewery & Retaurant, scheduled to open on Bridge Street in early 2006. Sly Fox Brewhouse & Eatery is located on the other side of Phoenixville, in Pikeland Village Square.

The site is being developed by Tim Kelly and a fraternity brother of his, long-time home brewer Emerson Haines, will be the brewer. Haines is a resident of Lancaster. In a recent interview with local beer writer Lew Bryson, he said Destiny will open by this June.

Haines told Bryson he will be brewing four barrel batches on a system of "pieced together wine-making equipment" and "an old 200-gallon bakery pot" as a brew kettle. He expects to have seven beers on tap, including a light beer and a golden ale which will be avaiable on both levels and an ESB, IPA, Pale Ale, Stout and seasonal also pouring in the pub.

According to this story in the daily Phoenix, "The brew pub will be open from noon to midnight Sunday through Thursday, with hours until 2 a.m. on Friday and Saturday nights. The restaurant would be open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Office hours would be from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. The business would open on Sundays at 1 p.m."
