September 27, 2005 - Brandon Greenwood Leaves The Lion
Brandon Greenwood has resigned his position as head brewer at The Lion in Wilkes-Barre after less than nine months on the job.

The news was reported today at www.lewbryson.com after beer writer Bryson received an email from The Lion's director of brewery operations (and former head brewer) Leo Orlandini announcing the resignation. Greenwood will be replaced by former assistant brewer Bob Kleintob, who returns after leaving the brewery for a sales job with a chemical company about the same time that Greenwood arrived on the scene last January.

Greenwood was the founding brewer at Nodding Head Brewery & Restaurant in center city Philadelphia before moving on to Wilkes-Barre. In an interview last December, he expressed his regret at leaving Nodding Head, explaining that he felt "I have to keep my career moving forward. I've been losing my edge and there many more areas of the business in which I have experience and training which I'd like to get back to using. I was always going to go back to a production brewery sooner or later. It just happened sooner than I expected." And now ended sooner than expected as well.

Greenwood had privately informed The Beer Yard last week of his resignation, but requested that the story be embargoed until it became official. Sources close to him had been reporting as early as last spring that he was unhappy with his new position and felt that he had not been given the responsibilities he had expected. "I made a grievous error in judgement in taking this job," he told The Beer Yard during last week's conversation.

He further said that would use this weekend's Great American Beer Festival in Denver as "a big job hunt," but added that "I won't leave the Philadelphia area unless I absolutely have to. A lot of people there have known my situation for a long time now." That would seem to suggest that he's already explored some other options, but Greenwood would not expand on the comment.
