April 01, 2006 - Pierre Celis Partners With Texas Brewery To Create "Brussels" Beers
Pierre Celis will begin brewing five Belgian-style beers in a brand new, just completed brewhouse under a partnership with Real Ale Brewing Company in Blanco, Texas, according to a story by Chuck Cook in the just released April-May 2006 of Celebrator Beer News. Brewing could begin within the next four five weeks if everything goes as planned, the story said.

Celis' planned return to brewing in the U.S. first appeared in a Northern Belgium newspaper and was reported in a story by Travis E. Poling in the San Antonio Express-News on December 30, 2005. That story was picked up in a news posting on this site the following day. "Because of confidentiality clauses," Poling wrote at the time, "neither the Austin-area brewery nor members of the Celis family will reveal the name of the brewery involved in the new deal."

Celis returned to Belgium after Miller Brewing Co. acquired Celis Brewing, which they shut down in 2000. The Celis brand is now owned and produced by Michigan Brewing Co., which purchased the rights from Miller. The new enterprise will have no relationship to the Michigan one.

Five beers, under a new "Brussels" branding will be made by Celis and Real Ale head brewer Tim Schwartz: White, Grand Cru, Cherry, Peach and Raspberry. Celis' daughter Christine will be in charge of sales, marketing, public relations and quality control.
