- February 14, 2002 - Nodding Head Expands Brewery
- Nodding Head Brewery & Restaurant on Sansom Street in downtown Philadelphia will double its brewing capacity with the addition of three fermentation tanks, co-owner Curt Decker and brewmaster Brandon Greenwood announced this week. Work is already underway and is expected to be completed by March, they said.
The two-year old brewpub, which is located above the Oyster House on the site of the former Sam Adams pub, will remain open throughout the expansion. The tanks will be installed in a space originally earmarked for a second bar. "We need to be able to produce more beer more than we need a second bar," Greenwood explained.
Nodding Head purchased the three 7 barrel tanks from Delaware's Dogfish Head Brewery, which obtained them as part of its purchase of the brewing equipment of the former Ortlieb Brewpub last November. In addition to allowing Greenwood to better keep up with current demand, the expansion will make possible a more diverse draft selection on site and enable Nodding Head, for the first time, to offer its signature brews to other selected outlets throughout the city.
"We have a definite plan about which beers we'll be selling off-premises and where we will offer them," said Greenwood, "but we're not ready to reveal that just yet."
