Store Notes

March 19, 2005 - Pfarmhouse? What's Up With That?
There's some confusion about the 2005 OTOP beers from Heavyweight Brewing (Golden Saison just arrived in our store yesterday) and so we called Tom Baker to clear things up.

"The original OTOP beers in 2004 were 'One Time, One Place' releases," says Baker, "draft only limited release beers which were distributed to a single tavern or pub in each market in which Heavyweight sells its beers. This year, we decided to bottle the OTOP beers, four of them, all farmhouse ales. Our original plan was to change the slogan to stand for 'One Time, Our Place' and only sell them at the brewery. But so many beer distributors like the Beer Yard wanted to carry them that we changed OTOP yet again to mean 'One Time, Only Pfarmhouse' and are releasing them to the market."

To further muddle the picture, the four ales will all also carry a second designation, Saison de la Soeur, or "from the sister" as the beers will be fermenter in either Leslie or Lynne, Heavyweight's two smaller fermenters named after Peggy's sisters. "It may be a bit confusing," Baker admits, "but there is an answer. People should buy as much of these beers in any fashion they can find them and everything will become clear."

The official story, such as it is, can be found here.
