- June 28, 2006 - Philly Mag, CBS 3 Sing the Beer Yard's Praises
- The Beer Yard gets its props in the July Philadelphia Magazine "Ultimate Guide to Summer Food" issue (page 92), with its "stupendous selections" being cited under a section called "Kegs." What really set Our Noble Employer Mr. Guyer's heart a-fluttering, however, was a report by Ukee Washington on CBS 3 this week, wherein he got to tell it like it is. Here's Ukee:
If it's backyard partying, it's "The Beer Yard" for icy malted beverages.
Just off Lancaster Avenue in Wayne you can find 400 kinds of beers in a sixtel keg. This new size holds about 55 beers. According to Beer Yard owner Matt Guyer the advantage is:
“Instead of getting half keg of one flavor, you get 3 sixtels, which will give you the same amt ountof beer, about 7 cases, but you have 3 different flavors."
He is so cute when he's pimpin'.
By the way, the four local beers mentioned by Philadelphia in its "Summer Beers" section (all available at the Beer Yard, of course) were Flying Fish Farmhouse Ale, Sly Fox Pikeland Pils, Stoudt's Weizen and Victory Whirlwind Wit. They suggested having Farmhouse at P.J. Whelihan's in New Jersey with a plate of wings, Pikeland in a can at Citizen's Bank Park (the way the Phillies are going, you might want more than one), Weizen while watching the World's Cup at Ludwig's Garten and Whirlwind at London Grill after seeing the Wyeth Exhibit at the Museum.
